Core principles

Technique

Perfect technique for every exercise is a never-ending pursuit.  Improving technique prevents injury, increases health and performance, and enhances all the positive feelings derived from training.  Whether it is your first time attempting a movement or something you've done for your whole life, every workout is an opportunity to learn something new about your body.  You are not just a collection of isolated joints or muscles.  Trained properly, even the simplest movement feels more like a symphony with balance, timing, precision, and so forth.  As your technique improves, you will feel the differences and see the results. When you begin to truly learn technique it will change everything you do, even the smallest things like how you sit at your desk.

Train In Phases

Just like life, training moves through phases.  The cycle of training can be seen on the macro, micro, and intermediate levels.  The basic phases of begin, build, peak, taper, rest can be used in a variety of ways.  You can use this cycle over the course of one workout, one week, months, and even years.  It is critical to plan your peak performances and train for the phase you are currently in.  For example, peak training when you are just beginning is a guarantee for injury.  Skipping phases like rest can be equally damaging.

Holistic Training

There are many factors that influence the results of any training program.  It's easy to put all your energy into one or two areas of your workout that seem to be the most important and ignore other components that are also vital to your long-term success.  Power lifters usually don't like to stretch; ballerinas usually don't like to lift weights.  The proportions for each element should vary depending on your specific goal and fitness level, but training holistically means you can use all the tools available for optimal results.  Diet, flexibility and strength, speed and endurance, balance, sport specific, psychology, rest and sleep will all be parts of your plan with PHASE Fitness.
